WHY WE BUILT CADENCE

Born from both sides of the appointment.

A patient’s experience. A rheumatologist’s perspective. A shared reason to make the time between visits count.

THE PATIENT’S PERSPECTIVE

Living with the gaps.

Co-founder Stefan Gertz was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis at 12. His experience navigating appointments, specialists and treatment changes inspired Cadence.

He knew how difficult it could be to keep care moving when appointments and adjustments to treatment were separated by long waits.

THE CLINICIAN’S PERSPECTIVE

Seeing the gaps in practice.

During her rheumatology fellowship, co-founder Dr. Chantelle Carneiro saw how little of a patient’s experience between visits reached the clinic.

Patients could find it difficult to describe their symptoms and understand which changes were relevant to discuss with their rheumatologist.

A shared starting point.

An introduction through Stefan’s former physician brought the founders together. Their complementary perspectives shaped Cadence: a practical way to collect patient-reported outcomes and review them in the clinic.
